2012-2013 Dallas area Charter schools- Pass/Fail Ratings

Texas has a new rating system for its public schools that is essentially Pass/Fail. Most schools passed. The bar was set low. Schools were either rated "met standard" which is the Pass or "improvement required" which is the Fail. In Texas, 80% of charter schools passed.

The new rating system is based on four criteria: (1) student achievement on STARR tests; (2) academic gains over time; (3) college readiness; and (4) closing the race-based and income-based gaps. The bar was set low because passing standards were low. For example, 56% was considered a passing grade on the 5th grade reading test and a 39% was considered passing on the 8th grade math test. The passing standards will go up over time.
